At a glance
- No accounts, no analytics, no tracking. Campuslit has no server of its own and sends nothing to us or to anyone else. Out of the box it makes no network requests at all; only if you turn on notifications does it open pages on the two portals, with your own session (see Notifications below).
- It never reads your password or anything you type into a form on the portals.
- It runs only on
cms.bahria.edu.pkandlms.bahria.edu.pk, the student portals of Bahria University, and nowhere else. - What it keeps stays on your device: your appearance choices, an optional short note of open assignments so reminders work, and which tips you have seen.
- You are in control. Switch it off, forget what it remembers, or remove it, and everything it saved goes with it. The one note it can keep about your assignments expires by itself after 150 days.
1Who we are
Campuslit is an independent, open-source project made by Bahria University students. It is released by “Campuslit contributors” under the MIT Licence. It is not made, endorsed or supported by Bahria University, and it is not affiliated with it.
The code is public at github.com/ahmedammad1709/campuslit, so every statement on this page can be checked against it. To ask a question or report a concern, open an issue at github.com/ahmedammad1709/campuslit/issues.
2What the extension reads on the portals
To redraw a few screens, Campuslit reads figures the portal has already put on your page. It uses them in your browser’s memory to build the new screen and then lets them go. It does not copy them anywhere, except for the optional reminder note described in section 3.
| What | Where | Used for |
|---|---|---|
| Your first name | LMS dashboard | The greeting, for example “Good morning, Ammad” |
| Your course list | LMS dashboard | Drawing your courses as cards |
| Assignment titles, deadlines and whether each is submitted | LMS Assignments page | The Due soon card, the status under each deadline and the reminder |
| Attendance hours and credit hours | CMS dashboard and Attendance page | Attendance bars and the planner |
| Your class schedule | CMS Time Table page | The week calendar, and the calendar file you can download |
| The names and addresses of the links in the portal’s menu | Both portals | Quick search |
When you press Add to calendar, your schedule is turned into a calendar file inside your browser and saved as an ordinary download. Nothing is uploaded.
Campuslit does not read passwords, anything typed into form fields, or the contents of files you upload or download.
3What it stores, and for how long
Campuslit saves a small amount of information in your browser’s extension storage. It stays on this device. Campuslit does not use browser cloud sync, cookies or any other tracking technology.
| Item | What it contains | Kept for | How to remove it |
|---|---|---|---|
| Appearance settings | Your theme and any custom theme you design (its name and colours), font, text size, spacing, corner roundness, background and motion options, sidebar width, Week or List time table choice, semester length, and your on/off choices for the CMS, the LMS and each feature | Until you reset them or remove the extension | Settings › Privacy & data › Reset all settings |
| Assignment reminder note (optional, on by default) | For each course: its name, the semester, and the titles and deadlines of assignments you have not submitted. It is used only to show a reminder on other LMS pages | Each entry is deleted automatically after 150 days. A reminder you close is hidden for 8 hours | Turn reminders off (this deletes it) or press Forget remembered assignments in Settings › Portals |
| Notification note (optional, off by default) | Only if you turn notifications on: for each course, the titles, marks and deadlines of assignments, quizzes and lecture notes; your present and absent hours for each course; when each portal sign-in was last seen working or ended (so the settings can show how long it lasts); and the notifications already shown | Until you turn notifications off, forget it, or remove the extension. Notices already shown are forgotten after 30 days | Settings › Notifications › Forget what it remembers, or turn notifications off |
| Tip flags | A few yes/no facts: whether the welcome was shown, whether a tour replay was requested, and which one-time hints you dismissed | Until you reset them or remove the extension | Settings › Guide › Show the hints again, or Reset all settings |
The settings file you can export contains appearance choices only. It holds no student information.
4What it never does
- It never sends anything to us or to anyone else. Its security policy allows connections only to the two portals, and each release is checked to confirm that no code can reach anywhere else. With notifications off, it makes no requests at all.
- It never collects, sells, shares or profiles personal information, and it shows no ads.
- It never changes your marks, your submissions or the data the university shows you. It changes only how pages look and adds helpers on top.
- It never loads code or fonts from the internet. Everything it needs is inside the extension.
5Permissions
Campuslit asks the browser for as little as possible:
- Storage, to remember the items in section 3 on this device.
- Notifications and alarms, to show the alerts you choose and to wake the checker on a timer. Nothing is shown or checked unless you turn notifications on.
- Access to the two portals only (
cms.bahria.edu.pkandlms.bahria.edu.pk), so it can restyle them. It cannot run on any other website.
It has a small background process that does nothing unless you turn notifications on, no access to your tabs or browsing history, and no other permission.
6Notifications (optional)
Notifications are off by default. Campuslit asks you once, in the toolbar popup, whether to turn them on, and nothing is checked until you say yes. You can also turn them on or off at any time in Settings. Once they are on, a small background process wakes up every 1 to 8 hours (your choice) while your browser is open and opens a handful of pages on the two portals: the same pages you would open yourself, namely your assignments, quizzes and lecture notes for each course on the LMS, and the attendance shown on the CMS dashboard. It compares them with the last time it looked and shows a notification on your computer when something is new.
- It uses the portal session you are already signed in with. It never signs in for you, never asks for or sees your password, and cannot look once your session ends. It tells you once, so you can sign in again.
- It talks only to
lms.bahria.edu.pkandcms.bahria.edu.pk, never to us or to anyone else. The comparison happens on your device. - It keeps a note on your device of what it last saw: for each course the titles, marks and deadlines of assignments, quizzes and lecture notes; your present and absent hours for each course; when each portal sign-in was last seen working or ended; and which notifications it has already shown. It is deleted when you turn notifications off, when you press Forget what it remembers, or when you remove the extension.
- Notifications show course names, titles and marks on your screen. Anyone who can see your screen can read them; your computer’s notification settings control that.
- It is gentle on the university’s servers: requests are spaced out, capped for each look, and none are made while your browser is closed.
You can switch each kind of notification on or off separately in Settings › Notifications.
7Security
Campuslit is designed so that a mistake cannot leak your information, because there is nowhere for it to go.
- Its pages follow a strict content security policy that blocks every outgoing connection except to the two portals, and any code that is not packaged inside the extension.
- Text it reads from the portals is shown as plain text, never as code, so a hostile page cannot use Campuslit to inject anything.
- Every release is checked automatically before it is published: it must request no permission beyond storage, notifications and alarms, reach only the two portals, allow network calls in one file only (the background checker) and only to those portals, contain no dynamic-code calls, and contain no personal-data patterns.
- The source code is public, so security researchers and students can read and test it.
No software is perfect. If you find a weakness, please open an issue describing the problem without posting private details, and it will be fixed promptly.
8This website
This website describes Campuslit. It has no accounts, no forms, no cookies and no analytics, and it loads its fonts and images from itself. It is hosted on Vercel, which, like any web host, may keep standard server logs (such as your IP address, the time and the page requested) to run and protect the service, under its own privacy policy. We do not receive or use those logs. Links to GitHub and other sites leave this website, and those sites have their own policies.
9The university portals
The CMS and LMS belong to Bahria University and are run by it. This policy covers Campuslit only. How the university handles your information on its portals is governed by its own rules, and Campuslit does not change that. Campuslit cannot promise anything about what the portals themselves send or store.
10Your choices and rights
- The toolbar button has one switch for everything, and one each for the CMS and the LMS. Switch it off and the original pages return at once.
- Settings can turn off assignment reminders, quick search, tips and the opening animation, and can forget the reminder note, show the hints again, or reset everything.
- Removing the extension from your browser deletes everything it stored on your device.
Because Campuslit does not collect or hold personal information about anyone, there is nothing we could give you a copy of, correct, or delete on request: everything is already in your browser, under your control. This is the same wherever you live, including under data-protection laws that give people rights over their personal data.
11Children
Campuslit is made for university students. It collects no information from anyone, including children, and it has no accounts or features that contact people.
12Changes and contact
If Campuslit’s handling of information ever changes, this page will be updated first and the effective date at the top will change. Every earlier version stays visible in the project’s public history on GitHub. If a change would involve collecting anything from users, it will be announced on this page and in the release notes before it ships.
Questions, concerns or requests: open an issue on GitHub. Please do not post passwords, enrollment numbers or other private details there.
